Our Eco Policies
Long before we took over the Eco Lodge on Waiheke Island this property had been built using as many recycled materials as possible so not only can you feel good staying a place that has not impacted on the environment but its got character too!
We try to monitor energy consumption to decrease if possible and also implement energy saving practices whenever possible, for example
By using low energy, efficient fridges
Changing our light bulbs to the low energy compact fluorescent bulbs
Guests' towels are not changed daily except on request
Appliances are not left on standby when the rooms are vacant
Effective Infra Red over head heating in the communal areas operated on a timer system
All laundry is line dried whenever possible
Water Conservation, a topic close to our hearts as we collect only rainwater
We only operate the dishwasher and washing machines when full.
Toilets are fitted with half flush button and all sinks have plugs
Signage requesting guests not to run the tap constantly while brushing their teeth
We have showers not baths
We use a front loading washing machine with an eco friendly detergent and then recycle that water to irrigate our veggie patch
We aim to grow as much as possible from our own gardens and buy locally grown organic produce whenever possible.
We provide eco friendly toiletries (shampoo/shower gel/soap) in dispensers in our bathrooms so not only cutting down on waste packaging we also know what is going into our septic.
We reduce the use of our office consumables where possible; we reuse A4 paper when only used on one side and save electronic copies instead of paper ones whenever possible.
All kitchen scraps and garden waste is composted, we use both the traditional method and also the Bokashi system (see link under contacts page); the compost is then added to our veggie garden.
Cans, glass, plastics and cardboard are all recycled (recycling bins are also provided for our guest accommodation).
